Camera Lighting

For my documentary i wanted to experiment with the lighting and we got to do this in Dan's lesson. We had a shallow depth of field for all the photos to really emphasize the impact on the subject. We also set the camera to monochrome because then all the gradients and shadows will clash with the blacks. this helps with the tone and texture and you can really see it in some of these examples.

Light from above with reflector & close up

In this photo we placed the light very far above his head and had a reflector on the right this caused the subject matter to be more visible but the reflector caused the subjects right side to be more bright. this type of lighting is typically used when a person or object is inside a house and light comes in from another angle.

Light from above & close up

As you can see in this image without the reflector there is not as much light reflecting on his face, this creates a more dark effect for example this can be related to a thriller because of the lack of light and almost consumed by the darkness.

Light from the right close up

Here you can see we had the light panel on the right and it was a close up shot. this is very different to the other two we have seen because the connotations of this photo give the effect that the subject is mysterious because half of the subject is covered by the shadow, not allowing us to see the rest of the face. The reason i say mysterious is because if it showed the full face then you can see the subjects eyes and the quote "eyes are the window to the soul" The texture is also easily seen here because of the pimples.

light in front & long shot

The shot here is is taken from a further distance then the other shots. you can see the shadow from behind and this is a thriller & horror effect that is communally used when the antagonist is coming towards the protagonist, the shadow will get more larger or will begin to get small because the subject is moving. If we were in a bright room the lighting would no cause a harsh shadow and most likely blend together and cancel out he shadow.
